Clay on the wheel, at the bench, and through the kiln.

Riverbend Pottery is an East Austin studio for makers who want real time at the wheel — intro classes, hand-building workshops, open studio hours, and in-house glaze and firing for pieces you will actually use.

Offerings

Drop-in intros, multi-week wheel courses, member open studio, and commission tableware — all fired on-site in East Austin.

Wheel-throwing classes

Six-week sessions and single intro nights on electric wheels — centering, pulling walls, and trimming with patient, hands-on instruction.

Hand-building workshops

Coil, slab, and pinch techniques for mugs, planters, and sculptural forms. No wheel required; all skill levels welcome.

Open studio time

Reserved bench and wheel hours for members and alumni. Glaze test tiles, reclaim clay, and finish pieces on your own schedule.

Glaze & firing

Cone 6 oxidation firings, studio glazes, and custom dip schedules. Drop-off bisque with clear labeling — we handle the kiln load.

Custom tableware

Commissioned dinner sets, serving bowls, and café ware thrown to spec. Glaze palette matched to your kitchen or brand.

Private group sessions

Birthdays, team offsites, and date-night wheel dates for up to eight guests. All materials, firing, and studio time included.

About the studio

A neighborhood kiln room with room to grow.

Riverbend started as a shared wheel shed near the river trail and grew into a full glaze lab and member studio. We keep class sizes small so every student finishes something worth firing — and we run enough open studio hours that returning potters can keep a body of work moving.

“The goal is simple: more hands in clay, fewer pieces left leather-hard on the shelf. We fire what you make.”
